How is adult height predicted?
The most common method for predicting a child's adult height is the **Mid-Parental Height formula**, also known as the Tanner Method. It estimates how tall a child will be based on the biological parents' heights and the child's gender.
The Formulas
- For Boys: ((Mother's Height + Father's Height + 13 cm) / 2) ± 10 cm
- For Girls: ((Mother's Height + Father's Height - 13 cm) / 2) ± 10 cm
In imperial units, the formula uses 5 inches instead of 13 cm:
- For Boys: ((Mother's Height + Father's Height + 5 in) / 2) ± 4 in
- For Girls: ((Mother's Height + Father's Height - 5 in) / 2) ± 4 in
